Initially Barrier Surveillance Systems LTD traded as Echo Northern LTD company Reg No. 2615284 it was formed in May 1991, The founding Directors were Andy Graham and Barry Johnson.
“The company traded successfully for a number years supplying /installing and maintaining CCTV, Intruder Alarms and Public Address systems”.
In 1995 Echo Northern LTD were approached by the Barrier Group to become a subsidiary of their Group of companies (hence the name change) with Vince Johnson now becoming an active part in the company as a Director, this benefited us significantly with the growth of the company now being able to tender for large scale projects with a name change to Barrier Surveillance Systems LTD.
This proved successful for a number of years however with the demise of the Offshore Industry (Barrier Group main income) Barrier Group had to consolidate their business and we were asked to go alone from 1998.
Now with all the experience and tools to carryout contracts we won mayor projects such as Northumbria Police, Newcastle Airport, T-Mobile Telecom , O2 Telecom, NG Bailey (numerous contracts), Passport offices 70 No. Nationwide, French gate Shopping Centre Doncaster, Kingfisher Shopping Centre, Newcastle car parks to name a few… the total value overall in excess of £80m.
The security business slowed down due to Chinese imports and Barrier Surveillance Systems LTD diversified into alternative energies such as PV / Biomass ETC headed up by Dan Johnson but still carried on the security side of the business.
Vince and Andy retired in May 2020 and Matthew Dobson and Tom Johnson became Directors they brought further diversity and head up the M+E (Mechanical and Electrical) side of the business with clients such as Lane 7 Bowling, Gutterball, Tomahawk ETC providing a complete Design / installation as fit out contractors.
Which brings us to today employing 22 engineers and a solid well established company.
